Do you need a typing service near you?
Not really — and you probably don’t want one. Typing is delivered digitally, so distance makes no difference to speed or cost. What matters is that a real person types your document, that it stays confidential, and that someone is still there next month when you need the next one.
The reason people search for a typing service nearby is usually trust rather than geography. You are handing over a client letter, a set of clinic notes, a manuscript or three years of doctoral research. You want to know it is going to a proper company with an address and a phone number, not to an anonymous freelance listing that may go quiet halfway through the job.
Imperial is a UK company with a London base. Your documents are typed by UK-based staff working under signed confidentiality agreements, and you deal with a named contact throughout.
What we can type for you
Audio and dictation typing Dictated letters, reports, notes and case files, typed to your template. Send recordings from a dictaphone, phone app or digital recorder.
Handwritten notes Notebooks, meeting scribbles, forms, journals and archive material converted into clean Word documents. We are used to difficult handwriting.
Copy typing Printed pages, scanned documents, faxes and photographs of text retyped into an editable, properly formatted file.
Thesis and dissertation typing Full documents typed and formatted to your university’s requirements, including headings, contents pages, footnotes, tables and reference lists.
Legal document typing Attendance notes, statements, letters, bundles and file notes typed to your firm’s house style.
Medical secretarial typing Clinic letters, referrals and correspondence typed to your practice template. Also see: GP Transcription and Medical Transcription.
Minutes and meeting notes Rough notes or recordings turned into structured, circulated-ready minutes.
Manuscripts and books Handwritten or typewritten manuscripts converted into clean, editable files for editing or submission.
PDF and document reformatting Locked PDFs, badly converted files and inconsistent formatting rebuilt into usable Word documents.
Typing or transcription — which do you need?
The two overlap, and the words get used interchangeably, so here is how we separate them.
| Typing | Transcription | |
|---|---|---|
| What you send | Dictation, handwriting, printed pages, drafts | Recordings of conversations |
| Speakers | Usually one, speaking to you | Often several, talking over each other |
| What you get | A formatted document, ready to send or submit | A transcript, verbatim or intelligent verbatim |
| Typical uses | Letters, reports, theses, minutes, manuscripts | Interviews, court proceedings, research, HR investigations |
If your source is a recording of a conversation — an interview, a hearing, a focus group, a meeting between people — you want transcription services rather than typing. If you are dictating, or handing over something already written, you are in the right place.
Not sure? Send it across and we will tell you which service fits and quote accordingly. There is no difference in how carefully we handle it either way.
Why Not Just Use a Freelancer? — Differentiation Block
What you get from a company that you don’t get from a freelancer
Freelance typists can be excellent, and for a one-off document they are often fine. Where it tends to go wrong is on anything ongoing, anything confidential, or anything with a deadline that cannot move.
Capacity that doesn’t disappear. One typist is one holiday, one illness, one busier client away from your deadline slipping. We have a team, so your work is covered.
Confidentiality you can evidence. Every person handling your documents works under a signed confidentiality agreement, within a GDPR-aligned workflow. If you are typing patient correspondence or client files, your own obligations require you to be able to demonstrate this — a private arrangement with an individual usually cannot.
Consistency across a long job. The same typist and the same template, from the first document to the hundredth. Your formatting doesn’t drift.
Someone answerable. A named contact, a company address, a landline, and 26 years of trading behind it.

What typing costs
Typing is quoted per document, based on length, legibility of the source, formatting complexity and how quickly you need it. You get a fixed price before we start, so nothing changes at invoice.
Insert your price-from figure and standard turnaround here — a real number materially improves conversion on this page.
Rush turnarounds are available, including next-day on most jobs. There are no setup fees, no minimum order and no ongoing commitment.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have an office near me? Our UK operations are based in London, with a second office in New York. Nearly all of our clients never visit either. Documents are sent and returned securely online, so where you are makes no difference to price, speed or quality.
Do I have to bring documents in person? No. Upload through our secure portal, send an encrypted email, or share a cloud link. If you have original papers or a physical recording that must be posted, contact us and we will arrange secure handling and return.
Can you read my handwriting? Almost certainly. Our typists work with difficult handwriting routinely. If a word genuinely cannot be made out, we flag it in the document rather than guess.
Who actually types my documents? UK-based typists employed to do this work, each under a signed confidentiality agreement. We do not offshore typing and we do not pass work to anonymous contractors.
How quickly can I get a document back? Standard turnaround depends on length and complexity, and rush options including next-day are available on most jobs. You get a confirmed deadline before work begins.
How much does typing cost? We quote per document based on length, source legibility, formatting and turnaround. The price is fixed before we start. Send a sample and we will quote on the actual material.
Can you follow my template or my university’s formatting rules? Yes. Send the template or the formatting guidelines with the first job and we will work to them, including headings, contents pages, footnotes, tables and reference styles.
Is my information kept confidential? Yes. Everyone handling your documents works under a confidentiality agreement, within a GDPR-aligned process, and files are deleted on request once the work is complete.
Can I try before committing? Yes. We will type a first document free so you can check accuracy and formatting on your own material before you spend anything.
